Update: Project 1A

Hola. Yo soy apreindo espanol y yo -- Okay that's enough of hat. I couldn't write a whole post in Spanish if I tried. But when I can there is apparently a website I can go to called Lang-8.

I'm up to my eyeballs in online resources, actually, which is pretty nice. I haven't been able to play with all of them, but I'll always have something to check out.

I am loving Duolingo I feel like I'm actually learning some stuff. Memrise is pretty good too. I'm supposed to learning 250 verbs and I was pretty surprised at the one that have stuck with me. So those are my favorites right now.

I'm going to take the plunge and get on italki since I haven't heard a bad thing about it yet and it's pretty cheap for some of them. I might just start with a language exchange before I start shelling out any money. I'm so weird about talking to strangers in English, but I guess I have to get the hell over it if I'm going to be a bonafide Spanish communicator. So I'll keep you posted on that.

But I do have a new Spanish related project for Flempty. So I know a good thing to do is watch things in Spanish or at least with Spanish subtitles. I'm pretty sure Netflix used to have Spongebob with one of those, but it's gone now. I did find a Bob Esponja site, but it was actually, like, really fast. So, apparently, I'm not Spongebob level. Anyway, What I did find on Netflix was maybe 15 or so movies. They all look strangely sexual, even the one that's a cartoon about music. Anyway, it's a nice chuck of movies and I am going to watch all of them. So that's a project. 1A supplement: Watch all the Spanish language movies on Netflix.

See you soon.

Happy New Year (An update)

So here's an update for my, as of now, nonexistent audience. Last year, everything got eaten by a monster called trying to get my degree. And guess what? I still don't have it, but I'm okay with it really. Well, okay, I'm disappointed especially since I was supposed to get it in December. I'm already tired of going over the story about why that didn't happen. Anyway, now I'll be getting it in May although I will be done with everything the first week of January. But I'm fine with it I swear.

Anyway, I've got this big gap between now and May and then, like, the whole rest of the year. So it's time to get back into Flempty. I will have to find the list and get started on something. Well technically I'm already undertaking the whole become fluent in Spanish thing. Apparently I should be able to do that in 3 months (so they say). We'll see how well that work out. I'm giving myself the same 3 month time line and the goal of being able to read a complex, well-known, text like 100 Years of Solitude. Something famous and beautiful that I can appreciate in it's original language. So shooting for 3 months, but giving myself till I get my degree, which is a little over 4 months. So that;s project 1A or 1 prime maybe, and it's the priority. I'll be working on it every day and reporting periodically. But I'll start some other thing too, a smaller thing. Like learning to put on contacts or tie a tie. anyway, I'll get on it even though I guess I feel sort of removed from everything now. So many things are connect to learning that I can't do it with Spanish I don't think. Plus I think I'm a little burnt out. Still, I promised I'd see this through and I will if only for myself.

Also big-ish news. For the year of 2015 this blog will now have a video component. So sometimes you will get to see my face and hear my voice at the same time. It's cray.

The first attempts at this video were really adorable okay. I've got to put video editing on my things to do.

Flempty is Totes Still a Thing

Unforeseen circumstances have caused it to be postpone until 2015. Which is sad, but these things happen. January of 2015 the blog will be reborn and I'll have more ideas for projects and more time. And I know that no one really knows about this blog or will be reading this post, but I've got to do it for prosperity's sake.

Doing Things Costs Money, Apparently

Oh what's this? A new post? The first post after the welcome? What exciting project are we kicking off?
Well, about that. I'd love to be reporting on my first project right now. But did you know that thing cost money? I know right, it's a shocking development.  I have a job, but it's not a pay week. So as I was looking at my ever-expanding list I realized a lot of the items require supplies that I don't have.  So many of these things have to do with making foodstuffs, so I think those things must have been added when I was hungry. Even the little things like finally learn how to wear contacts require me buying several pairs of colored contacts for my many failures.

I mean sure there are some not buying thing options, but those mostly have to do with watching or reading something. Those are really only on the list as filler projects to wind down from doing something big like making fancy mirror shoes from my old combat boots. I certainly can't start with something like that. I know what my so far non-existent audience wants.

But since I wanted to get this show on the road I added something to the list that I think will be free and also requires more than reading/watching (which isn't cheating, I make the rules). I have the next two days off so I will be devoting that time to seeing if I have smart dogs. I'll be giving them doggie IQ tests and I will let you know how that goes.

Until then, another gratuitous pet pic.

I don't know what kind of dog this is but it lives in my house.

Welcome!

So I have this deeply important internal struggle where I’m into blogs and blogging and I feel compelled to have my own blog, but I can’t actually do that. I had a fake sort of half blog that I wrote but never let loose on the world. In that blog I decided the things that kept me from blogging were as follows: nothing interesting happens to me, I’m not an expert in anything, and I don’t have one of those jobs that people are secretly dying to know about. So the content was stuff like me getting philosophical about having to wear headphones and talking about how awkward it is to call strangers on the phone.  Luckily, no one had to see any of that.

Anyway all of that is going to change because I know have something of substance to blog about. Get excited. Or don’t, I’m not here to tell you how to live your life, this is mostly for me anyway.

I’ve decided to make some changes in 2014. Not, like, resolutions or anything that. I just have things, mostly hobby-related, that I want to do or start doing, or learn how to do. I mean I live pretty much in the middle of no where, all of my good friends live hundreds of miles away and I have no romantic prospects to speak of. So I’ve got time and I’ve got to keep myself busy. So a couple of weeks ago I made this list (though it will probably get longer). It’s got stuff like learn a magic trick, do moss graffiti, make 5 types of hummus, run some miles, watch all the Studio Ghibli movies… A lot of it is inspired by things I’ve seen on Tumblr.  And I figure I might as well blog about my attempts, thought that’s mostly to motivate me to actually keep up with it. Either way I hope it will be entertaining for anyone reading. A lot of them involve me physically doing things and I’m pretty terrible at doing most things so I think that is something to get excited about.

I plan on starting immediately while the year is still young, but I am still working on schools stuff so I don’t have ALL the free time, just some of it. I can work solidly on one thing a week, maybe not one new thing, ongoing things maybe. I’ll do more intensive stuff, like tackling languages and learning how to photoshop after the school stuff is done (which, Christ, I hope is soon I am so ready to be DONE)
So here it is. The blog. It exists, officially, with a purpose. And it’s going to have content and all that good stuff.

Also since this has been a wordy post have a gratuitous pet pic.
